Discover Lorain’s History during a Guided Tour

Join Curator Kaitlyn Donaldson for a guided tour of the Carnegie Center and explore the rich history of Lorain through our Permanent Exhibits—from the iconic Lighthouse to the diverse cultures in International City, the vibrant stories of The Heart of Lorain, and the city’s legacy in Recreation and Industry.

Plus, don’t miss our new temporary exhibit, "Stocked with Stories: Uncovering How Grocery Stores in Lorain Have Been Central to Shaping Local History." This special exhibit highlights the role of local markets in building community, preserving traditions, and supporting entrepreneurship.

 

Ask our Curator questions about Lorain history, explore the exhibits, and learn more about how these exhibits were created. Tours will be about 1 hour.

History Boat Tours

Lorain Port Authority

Have you ever taken a tour of our beautiful Black River? Now's your chance to take a tour through the mouth of the Black River and experience wildlife, Lorain's early history and see some of the industries that started it all. You will also learn about the revitalization efforts put forth through organizations today!

​

A guide from the LHS staff will host the tour and lead you through a 2 hour excursion from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Our boat will set sail immediately so please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure at Oasis Marinas. We will be stationed at the first dock and parking is available directly behind 'Erie Steak & Seafood' at 301 Lakeside Ave., Lorain 44052.

Tickets must be purchased in advanced on the Lorain Port Authority website and are $20 per person.  Seating is limited so book immediately. If you are interested in booking a group tour please contact the Port Authority.

We have two walking tours that focus on Downtown Lorain and the Lorain Tornado. If you choose to learn about Lorain's past businesses and architecture you may find the Downtown Historic Walking tour to be quite fascinating! If you'd like to learn about one of the events that shaped Lorain's history you may be interested in learning about the path of the Lorain Tornado. Our historians provided the tour through izi.Travel.com to provide you with the most important facts about our beloved Downtown and lakefront area. By visiting the site you can access it on your smartphone and follow along with or without audio to learn about Lorain!
